Sort (Seiri) – The first step in the 5S organization process is to remove all non-essential items from the workplace. This will free up space, improve workflow, and help create a safer work environment.
Set in Order (Seiton) – The second of the 5S steps involves creating efficient storage and location methods: A place for everything and everything in its place.
Shine (Seiso) – The third 5S step focuses on cleaning and painting the work area. The benefits of a clean work environment are improved morale, defects become more obvious, improves safety by removing dirt and clutter, and it creates an automatic inspection during the process of cleaning.
Standardize (Seiketsu) – The fourth step of 5S is to implement standardization, labeling, and coding, to ensure that we maintain the organization and efficiencies created in the first three steps.
Sustain (Shitsuke) – The fifth step in the 5S organization process is to continue the changes started in the previous steps and instill the culture of continual improvement in your organization.
